We stayed at the Disney Port Orleans Resort for three nights before going to our four bedroom villa with our friends. We had inter-connecting rooms, which were large and well equipped with two king sized beds. In addition, 963 of the Bayou rooms have trundle beds, although an additional nightly charge is made for its use. The rooms had air-conditioning, radio, hair dryer, telephone, In-house Movies, television (Color), Mini-Bar, Television (Cable).
Port Orleans Riverside is themed as a riverboat landing from the old pre-civil war South. The rooms of the hotel are made up to be like an ante-bellum mansion, in the "Magnolia Bend" area or the more proletariat homes of "Alligator Bayou". The Disney Port Orleans Riverside Hotel is located in downtown Disney resort area, 32 kms from the Orlando International Airport. The restaurant and entertainment area of the hotel is themed to be the riverboat landing itself. In fact, when you check in to the hotel, you are made to feel like you are booking passage on a riverboat heading south down the mighty river. This is a very large resort, but since it is broken up into the two areas, it does not seem so overwhelming.
I would stay here again considering it is near all attractions. The huge pool was also fantastic for the kids. Located in the middle of the resort, the pool area themed as an old watering hold in the deep south was a fun place to swim, and it's convenient to the guests at the resort. There are several other pools scattered about too. Fishing, boating (on the Sassagoula River), an arcade, and other activities are available. Riverside, also, has its general store to purchase sundries and souvenirs.
Staying in the resort area brings easy access to all the parks. We had a car, but for those who do not have transport, then there is free transport available from this hotel. It is convenient for travelling when staying in a Disney Resort hotel. No car is needed. Of course, if you want to visit Universal Studios then check with reception if there is free transport. In any case, the taxi service is cheap and reliable if you do not want to hire a car.
This is a classy hotel that I would recommend to any family wanting to have their holiday in a Disney Resort area in Orlando, Florida. So, if you are thinking of booking to go to Orlando, then consider staying at a Disney hotel for a few nights.By Denise Larkin
